GMC (General Motors Company) is an American multinational corporation that designs, manufactures, markets, and distributes vehicles and vehicle parts. The company’s history dates back to 1908 when General Motors was founded by William C. Durant.

Durant started General Motors by acquiring a number of car companies, including Oldsmobile, Buick, Cadillac, and Oakland (later renamed Pontiac). GMC itself was founded in 1912, as the General Motors Truck Company, to manufacture commercial trucks.

GMC continued to expand throughout the 20th century, introducing a wide range of trucks, vans, and SUVs. The company also began producing military vehicles during World War II, including the famous “Jimmy” truck used by the US Army.

In the 1970s, GMC expanded its product line to include sport utility vehicles (SUVs), such as the Jimmy and the Suburban, which became popular among consumers.

In the 1990s, GMC introduced the Yukon, a full-size SUV, which was followed by the Yukon XL, a longer version of the vehicle. The company also introduced the Envoy, a mid-size SUV, and the Canyon, a mid-size pickup truck.

Today, GMC is one of the leading brands of General Motors, producing a wide range of trucks, vans, and SUVs. Some of the company’s most popular models include the Sierra pickup truck, the Terrain SUV, and the Acadia crossover SUV. GMC also offers luxury versions of its vehicles under the Denali sub-brand.
