Palmyra is a borough located in Burlington County, New Jersey, United States. It is situated on the east bank of the Delaware River and is bordered by the city of Philadelphia to the southwest. As of the 2020 United States Census, the population of Palmyra was 7,372.
Palmyra was originally incorporated as a borough by an act of the New Jersey Legislature in 1894, from portions of the now-defunct Riverton Township. The borough is home to several parks, including Palmyra Cove Nature Park, which offers a variety of outdoor recreational activities such as hiking, bird-watching, and fishing.
Palmyra has a rich history, dating back to the 17th century when it was first settled by Swedish and Finnish colonists. The borough was also an important location during the American Revolutionary War, serving as a supply depot for the Continental Army.
Today, Palmyra is a primarily residential community with a small downtown area that includes a variety of shops, restaurants, and businesses. It is conveniently located near major highways and bridges, making it a popular choice for commuters who work in Philadelphia or other nearby cities.
